Cinderella, at the Chalk Farm Baptist Church in 2001, is where it all started for The Mighty Fin. Susannah’s well-developed songwriting skills came together with Kate’s nascent scriptwriting to produce a panto that was at once wildly enthusiastic and mildly erratic. The story was much as you would expect, but with the added twist that there is only one Prince in all of Fairyland, who must dash between stories and find a stand-in during his inevitable absences. To add to this confusion, there are fairy godmothers all over the place who cannot be trusted to stay in their own stories. Meanwhile, Buttons pines for Cinderella, the Evil Stepmother plots, the King blusters, and the pumpkin doesn’t quite transform as planned. |
